WAR & PEACE REVIVAL SHOW

Visited this show yesterday down in Kent (United Kingdom), fantastic collection of military (and some civilian) vehicles and associated things.

Here are a few pictures I took whilst there, hope you enjoy

1/76 BW MODELS ALVIS STALWART

Always liked the Stalwart since having a toy Corgi one in BP exploration markings as a kid

Built this BW Models white metal version a few years back, its very heavy!

Main paint is Tamiya, cab was a pig to fit and blend in but it looks OK with my other Alvis 6 wheelers (Airfix/JB Saladin and Saracen)

1/72 AIRFIX FOUGA MAGISTER

This is my take on the Airfix Fouga CM.170 Magister in 1:72

Recent reissue of the 1970s kit, mould seems to have held up OK and it fitted together neatly but it’s basic by modern standards

Plan was to build the Eire Silver & Orange version but after the silver took ages to dry (Vallejo Model Air) for some reason and many failed masking attempts I gave up and added a mix of kit and spares box decals to make a what-if USAF version

1/72 EDUARD HELLCAT

One from 2013, Eduard 1/72 Hellcat from a Profi Pack boxing which included etch for cockpit and other bits plus canopy masks

The kit is great, just falls together and the coloured etch for the cockpit is a great ‘cheat’. I left off some of the microscopic handles in the cockpit which you can’t see anyway

Main paint is all airbrushed, white is Tamiya, blues from Life-Color. I used quickshine to gloss before adding the decals and then finishing with Lifecolor satin varnish both before and after weathering.

MIG Cold Grey Wash was used over the white and intermediate blue and a mix of Humbrol BlackWhite powders with thinners to make a lighter grey wash for the dark blue. Cannon and exhaust marks are Citadel Black Wash but I’m not that happy with how that turned out so may try a bit of airbrushed matt black. Not sure what the odd stain is on the starboard tailplane, it wasn’t there before pics were taken …

This was the first time I’ve used pre cut masks; they worked really well and saved time so will definitely use again

Radio aerial was my first try with E-Z Line and it worked well too. I replaced the gun barrels with some brass tube and had to make up a pitot for the wing as the original part went AWOL at some point

Base is plastic card airbrushed with Tamiya gloss black which is finished with Eduard carrier deck section, a nice pre-coloured etched piece. This is as it comes from the packet, I may matt varnish it and weather a little later.

1/24 TAMIYA PORSCHE 911 (930) TURBO

Just finished this one

Tamiya Porsche 911 Turbo kit in 1/24, nice easy build; the kit is kerbside (no engine) and is ‘snap fit’ for most main parts but I used glue where necessary.

Paint is Tamiya TS-50 Mica Blue from rattle can, first time I’ve used these and was very impressed, the fine spray compared to my usual Humbrol acrylics meant the paint lasted longer; I only used one can for 2 coats of the body and underside plus mirrors which were painted separately.

Black is done with permanent marker, number plates were home made printing on photo paper.
